obama

The most repeated English word in Hong Kong is "Obama" or more accurately "ObemmA". We'll be walking down the street hearing conversation after conversation in Cantonese and hear ObemmA intermixed every time. A service attendant at YesInnSpace said to me out of nowhere in broken English, "How 'bow ObemmA?, Ee's ferwl (full) of gorwy (glory)."

He can't ride the glory train for too long. I still doubt him, but it seems as though the world is holding this half empty bucket of hope up to him, looking for him to overflow it. Uh oh, last time I checked we were in a drought.

I was proud to hear Obama say we as individuals, not as a government, are responsible for taking action for improvement. That's at the core of my political beliefs and I hope everyone takes that responsibility to heart.

I thought we'd get away by moving to China...
