new art lab // the peak at night

Jesse and I were joined by a coworker from Gnosis and his wife at a gallery opening in Sheung Wan. Linda Liao was presenting her artwork amongst a small crowd of mostly expats. Jesse and I had a good talk with Gordon Miere, the gallery's manager, about the HK art & gallery scene. I asked him about HK's divergence to american culture. "Comparatively, on a fictious scale, NY would ranked at 100 and HK at 0" A true black and white when it comes to an artist vying for exposure. "People don't do this in hong kong", Gordon said. Meaning, swinging the doors open to up and coming artists with gallery space, wine, beer and conversation. All of that is changing with NY mindsets coming in and giving local artists a shot at publicity. A good thing.

The peak at night was spectacular. Coworker, Luke, from Austrailia, got a car and his license recently, so we had a unique experience of riding in a car. Strange after spending so much time on public transportation. We saw multimillion dollar cars and houses! A spectacular view of the city and a cup of coffee makes a great night.

The Peak.
