ratatat!

Awesome show last night. The opening band was Quan. A very strange front man rapped some white boy hip hop and then would switch it up to some punk/rap licks. meh, it was ok,...the drummer was a chick. She reminded me of Meg White's role and looked like Kari Herby.

Ratatat is an indie, electro-rock group from Brooklyn, NY. Their show last night was certainly above what I had expected. I always like to listen to music and attempt to dissect the sounds. So, it's hard to listen to Ratatat and then predict how they might pull off such sounds in a live show. It's hard to grasp when and where the guitar comes in, and I always asked myself is this real? Yes it is real. They pulled off more live that I thought possible. Bongos, multiple synthesizers on the guitar and an electronic keyboard where all manipulated along with a background beat to make it all work.

Great showman ship as well, these dudes bleed a new age of cool rocker. In addition, they compliment each others stage presence very well. Mike has a bit of the alcoholic head banging side to him, a fast/slow and psychedelic style. At one point he used his Jameson bottle as a slide on his electric guitar. Every other song he'd take a nice chug of the ol' irish whisky. Evan has a quiet, smart and intellectual presence. He runs the business side as a producer, and it fits his sober, serious, "I know" look.

After the show Evan came out and joined the after party in the venue. Jesse talked to him. In conversation she told him that, "Your music got me through school", from which he replied, "My parents got me through school"

cheers
