So. Ever since I visited Hong Kong this past summer, I've had a little problem with the food. I cannot necessarily say I've had a problem with the food, just the meat really. The rest is actually very good. This is for all of you out there giving me a hard time about not eating local. I HAVE been eating local. But there's only so much I can take. This image on the left explains why I have a hard time eating the meat here. Especially off the street. The meat is just laying out in the sun, on the dirty streets and just sicks me out quite frankly. Despite all of this I have eaten at these places on many occasions. Just the other day I went to lunch with some co-workers and ate everything that came my way. I even ate some of the duck with all the fat around it. When I tried to pick it off before eating, they stopped me and said, no, that's the good bits. . . . umm hmmm. Again, I ate at a local place which was quite good, but all of a sudden out of nowhere octopus was coming at of my rice. This i just cannot take

After a little venturing out and learning our surroundings, we have found some good restaurants. This picture was taken after we found restaurants in the mall that looked decent! On top of that, we finally found two grocery stores near by. This was very exciting because they have a lot to offer. The price is only a little more than groceries back home.
Thank goodness we won't have to eat McDonald's anymore. We never eat McDonald's in the states, so it's upsetting to have to eat it out here.
No more McDonald's. YAY

One of my favorite lunch snacks are steamed pork buns (which you can be seen on the left). This image is all for you Bradley. This was at Crystal Jade in the IFC mall. Wish you could eat with us :) . The steamed buns can be found with a variety of different filling. Everything from pork to custard. The only this is that they are ALWAYS steamed in a bamboo basket.
Also any of the shredded meat and vegetable noodle soups are delicious. Like this bowl on the left

Here is a picture of Alex enjoying his steamed bun. . . ha

This is a bowl of minced pork and vegetable wonton soup.

The rice noodles and beef we had was very good as well.
One thing is for sure. The fruit and produce off the street is awesome. And there is so much to choose from. A lot of it is stuff we have never even seen before! Look at the size of those carrots.

But the BEST above all are these ice cream snacks we found. They are little balls of chocolate ice cream with fudge in the middle. On the outside is this soft chewy consistency which holds it all together and on the outside is powdered sugar. Very good. Alex keeps going back to the freezer to get another. You can tell by his awkward face in the picture that he feels somewhat guilty.

moki balls! the ice cream you talk about are called moki... or mochi... i don't really know exactly how you spell it. all I know is Kirsten and I found them at an asian market in Savannah and we ate like four a day. they ARE delicious.
